In A Life Worth Living – From Immigrant to Ambassador, former Israeli diplomat and ambassador Tuvia Israeli reflects on a career that took him from Egypt, Paraguay, Sweden, and South Korea to the halls of the United Nations. Alongside his diplomatic service, he recounts a personal journey shaped by immigration, identity, and family history as the son of Holocaust survivors.
Raised in a working-class neighborhood in Lod, Israeli rose through Israel’s diplomatic ranks while observing political change and international affairs from the front lines of diplomacy. Through encounters with political leaders, diplomats, and ordinary citizens, he offers a firsthand account of the challenges and opportunities of representing Israel abroad.
Combining personal narrative with reflections on diplomacy, culture, and public service, A Life Worth Living provides an insider’s view of international relations and a thoughtful portrait of modern Israel and its place in the world.
A long journey carried the boy to the peak of a diplomatic career as Israel’s ambassador. Looking back, I feel fortunate to have been accepted as a child of immigrants in a new country, and to have always remained focused on what is good and important for the country.
